佛陀在舍卫国时，有一个乞丐女难陀以讨饭为生，她虽然贫穷，但是善良而且有智慧，她想：我前世没有布施修福，以致今生贫穷卑贱，现在遇到如此广大的福田，一定要种下福德，可我如此贫穷，拿什么供佛？</p><p style="text-wrap: wrap;"> 于是她四处乞讨，终于化到一枚钱。刚好她看到波斯匿王点油灯来供佛。于是就拿着这枚钱去买油做灯时，可钱不够根，卖油人听说她要供佛，心生怜悯就给了她两倍的油，刚好够做一盏灯。</p><p style="text-wrap: wrap;"> 贫女难陀非常高兴，把油灯放在佛陀面前的众灯之中，默默发誓：<strong>我是个很贫穷的人，只能用此小灯供养佛陀。愿以此功德，让我来世得到智慧的明灯，灭除一切众生的愚昧黑暗。</strong>发誓之后，她便顶礼而去。</p></section><section style="text-align: center;margin-top: 10px;margin-bottom: 佛陀看到目连要扇灭此灯，就对目连说：“这盏油灯，不是你们声闻弟子的神通力所能熄灭的。就是你用四大海水浇灌它，让巨大的山风吹卷它，也难以把它熄灭。这是什么缘故呢？<strong>是因为它是一个发下宏愿、广济众生的人所供的油灯。</strong></p><p style="text-wrap: wrap;"><strong>
