据印光大师文钞中《南五台山示迹记》中说：“大士现比丘身救苦之事，实是六月十九之根源”。在隋文帝年间，南五台山中有条毒龙，变化成人，在京城卖药，称服用后可以得道升天。其实是使用妖术，将服药之人，携带回山中的洞里吞食。有一天，来了一位僧人，在峰顶搭建草庐。后用佛法，降服毒龙，使人民免受危害。第二年六月十九圆寂时，东面山峰上出现金桥，排列天仙，音乐响彻云霄，烟云之间，观音菩萨显现庄严法相。大家才知道那位出家人是观音菩萨的化身，便把他圆寂的日子奉为观音菩萨成道的日子，久之便形成传统，一直到今天。</span></span></p><p
