据《盂兰盆经》载，佛陀十大弟子中的目犍连尊者，以天眼通见其母亲堕饿鬼道中，饥渴无食、日夜受苦，为拯救母亲脱离苦趣，于是向佛陀请示解救方法。</span></p><p style="white-space: normal;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;box-sizing: border-box;"><span leaf=""> 佛陀言，因其母生前业力深重，须藉十方僧众的功德力，于七月十五日，以百味饮食、床敷卧具，放置于盆中（“盆”是盛载食物的容器，泛指一切盘、碗、桶等清净容器），恭敬奉献佛僧，承仗三宝不可思议福田之力，以解众生倒悬之苦。目犍连尊者依佛陀的慈示奉行，终使其母得以脱离苦趣。</span></p><p style="white-space: normal;margin: 0px;padding:
