leaf="">据佛经所说：阿难尊者在林中坐禅时，看见一个饿鬼，形容枯瘦，面貌丑恶，喉细如针，脸上喷火。他对阿难说：“我生前悭吝，贪不知足，死后堕入饿鬼道中，变成了这般模样。饮食到口，则化为火炭，故长年受饿。但你在三天之后，也会堕入饿鬼道，变成我这样。”阿难听后大惊，便急忙到佛前哀求救度。佛说：“你若能给众多的饿鬼施以饮食，不但不会受堕，而且能延年益寿，遇事吉祥。”阿难请问施食之法，佛为他说《焰口经》。从此以后，施放焰口令饿鬼都得到超度。</span></p><p
